So welcome back friends ... Here I come again with more of my thoughts !!!!
Moving on, let me talk about the various phases of this journey called life.
The birth of a child is the beginning of this viscous cycle. The moment a child opens his eyes, that very moment starts the experiencing phase. The child starts feeling the presence of people around . These people are his loved ones.Slowly and steadily the child realizes that they are the ones who care ,who love ,who support him. This phase is full of learning .A child takes the first step into this magical world holding the hands of his parents.Struggling with his tender feet to stand straight , the child learns the first lesson of life - " Try and try until you succeed".
Children have their own interpretation of the events going around. Herein the role played by all the actors round him is of vital importance. Childhood is the phase wherein values are inculcated into the children. The method of upbringing directly affects the child's perception of the world.
OK ....eekkk....probably you all know all this ..right ??? Many of us must be having great memories of our childhood. We must be having numerous pictures and videos to cherish those times. We have seen and learnt a lot from our families when we were kids.
But wait, you must have seen children around who are not as fortunate as you are.May be working in a roadside tea shop, or cleaning your house or may be selling flowers alongside the roads. Now honestly, think and answer to yourself - How many times did you stop by and did something for them? May be raising your voice against child labor, or against the brutality meted out to them.
I know I am asking a really tuff question considering the fact that such sights have been accepted as part of our lives. We tend to ignore many a times. I guess many of us might have tried to question the shopkeeper as to who the hell is he to scold / abuse these innocent beings. Not all of us probably have succeed in our efforts as the pity is that the child also feels the need to be a helping hand to his parents.
Nowadays, what bare minimum I do is to give those kids something to eat or something to read. Many of my friends go out during winters near the footpaths and give blankets to them.Probably it will make their lives a bit better. A smile earned is much more valuable than a penny earned. Right ??
Education is the solution to many of these issues. Let us think about the family status / background of such ill fated children. Their parents have a meager income or no income, may be daily wage earners. They may never have gone to school.Their mother's might have been married pretty much early and might have daily faced the wrath of her drunk husband. The child might be having many siblings because of lack of family planning knowledge. They might be living in a make shift home. Most of them might not be getting 2 square meals a day. They or their parents might have become drug addicts. In such a scenario, child is left with no other option but to start working thinking that such a step would support his /her family. AND HERE comes an end to his/her Childhood in a brutal manner. :/ :/
I empathize with such children. I feel you all would also be having some deep pain in your hearts reading all this.It is time that we make our lives worth living by TRYING TO give the bare minimum to these kids.
For example - We,the so called educated lot, should take initiative and be a part of neighborhood projects. We can teach the kids of our maid or vegetable vendor , give our old books and note books to the local plumber's kid, provide stationary to the needy , guide children on basic values by distributing short story books.
I believe such small steps will surely bring in a huge leap in the society.
In this regards I would also like to add that it is pertinent to understand that the parents of such kids should also be involved in these activities to make them understand the benefits of education. They must understand that giving birth to so many children would not only increase the number of hands to earn but also will increase their liabilities. It is very easy to fall in the viscous trap of poverty but it takes a lot of effort to come out of it. An educated citizen is surely an empowered citizen. Thus, even if the person works as a laborer, he /she should know about his/her basic rights.Only then it will be possible to seek justice against any such violation.
It is surely an onus on us,to help these kids live life and not just spend life.
So,just like Education, many other facets of childhood are important.HEALTH is something which we start giving importance only when it starts deteriorating. We do say health is wealth but seriously how many of us do really take care of our biological system ? A healthy child with a healthy mind is required to expect a healthy future. So many aspects are connected to health like environment, sanitation, food web, pollution, etc. We all deserve a healthy environment but our efforts to keep our ambiance clean fall short. Pollution has engulfed all avenues - air ,water and land. Moreover, pollution @psychological level that has reached a horrifying level.
We see exploitation of small children, even infants. Hell !!!!! Scary news we listen daily. Surely the scenario is so gloomy every mother is scared till the time child returns back home from school ,so much so that the first lesson taught is that - "Beta ....kisi ajnabi k saath kabhi kahin mat jana ".
So , where does your role fit in ????
What can you do to make your life worthwhile in this dimension ???
The answer is : -
-Giving basic health and hygiene education to all.
-Expand your reach via social media.
-Caution as many children as you can.Give basic child sex education to kids so that they know how to react if they face some uncomfortable advances from people.
-Learn and teach self defense techniques.
-Learn and teach basic first aid.
So, lastly I will like to end the blog with few more random thoughts coming to my mind.Pardon me in case any of my sentences would have hurt anyone. They are purely based on personal perception and experiences with no intention to hurt anyone.
Well surely these steps alone won't curb wrong doings by people. We need a mental revolution. If only we have a culture of at least RESPECT ,HONESTY , TRUST in our lives that sinks into our bone marrows,I feel some changes can be brought.
-Respect each other, don't let ego come in.Show respect to people of all genders.Neither try to overpower any nor let anyone do so.
-Be as much clear with the tenet of honesty as is possible. It is very difficult but not impossible.Learn to accept your mistakes .Remember, it might be possible that the person affected forgive you for the mistake when you accept it,but if your ego is big enough you might end up losing a mate.
-Trust is essential. You trust the bus driver who is taking you to your destination. The bus driver should not break my trust. This fiduciary relation should never be spoilt. But we find basic humanity getting crushed in the hands of the trust breakers. Surely you will say-" trust is based on many factors.I will trust only people I know. How can I trust a stranger ? " .But think practically,in reality we do trust random people to a certain extent. We trust the banker(that he won't run away with our money ),We trust our teachers(whatever knowledge they impart is true),we trust the milk man (that he won't give us poisoned milk),we trust that unseen force of nature (that the world will exist and no comet is gonna fall on us).
Anyway,I am not saying that these are the only essentials to right the wrong stated above in the 2 dimensions of childhood i.e EDUCATION and HEALTH,but yes these thoughts can be counted as a subset of the bigger view on these.
So signing off as of now with a phrase I love :-
"Do good by being good and be good by continuously doing good"
